Thomas
Ambroise Thomas (1811-1896) was a French composer, best known for opera. Born in Metz, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire, won the Prix de Rome and later became director of the Conservatoire.
His operas include Mignon and Hamlet, both of which enjoyed major success in the nineteenth century. He also wrote other stage works, sacred music and songs.
