Ferdinand Frantz (1906-1959) was a German bass-baritone, one of the major Wagner singers of the mid-twentieth century. He was especially associated with Wotan and other heroic German roles.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears repeatedly in Furtwängler’s Wagner Ring recordings from La Scala and Rome.

Frantz’s singing had breadth, authority and the dark verbal weight required by Wagner’s gods and rulers. He brought command without turning the line into granite.
