Antonio Janigro (1918-1989) was an Italian cellist, conductor and teacher. Born in Milan, he became especially associated with chamber music and with the Zagreb Soloists, the ensemble he founded and directed.

In the Pristine catalogue Janigro appears in piano trio recordings with Jean Fournier and Paul Badura-Skoda, including Beethoven and Brahms. These performances preserve his chamber-music artistry in distinguished company.

His playing combined warmth, flexibility and a strong ensemble instinct. He was not merely a cello soloist, but a musician with a chamber player’s sense of proportion and conversation.

Janigro’s later conducting and teaching extended his influence widely. His musical world was one of dialogue: bow to keyboard, player to player, tradition to fresh breath.
