Anton Dermota (1910-1989) was a Slovenian-born Austrian tenor, closely associated with the Vienna State Opera and the Mozart tradition. He became one of the leading lyric tenors in German-speaking Europe after the Second World War.

Dermota sang Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Bach and much concert repertory, and worked with conductors including Bruno Walter, Erich Kleiber and Herbert von Karajan. In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Beethoven and Mozart.

His voice was lyric, clean and musically poised, with excellent diction and a refined sense of style. He was especially valued where elegance and inwardness mattered more than sheer volume.

Dermota remains one of the essential post-war Mozart tenors. His singing has the cultivated glow of Vienna without the sugar crust.
