Anthony Collins (1893-1963) was a British conductor and composer, remembered especially for his pioneering recorded Sibelius cycle. Born in Hastings, he worked in both Britain and the United States, including film and concert music.

Collins’s complete Sibelius symphony recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra were among the first such cycles and became important to the composer’s international reception. They occupy a central place in the Pristine catalogue.

His conducting is direct, urgent and structurally alert, with a strong feeling for Sibelius’s long lines and dark orchestral weather. He avoids grandstanding in favour of momentum and clarity.

Collins may not be a celebrity conductor now, but his Sibelius legacy gives him real historical weight. He helped map that icy territory before many others had packed boots.
