Stock and the Chicago Symphony, Vol. 4

After a hiatus of nearly a decade, thanks to the Great Depression, Frederick Stock and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra returned to the recording studio in 1939 to begin a second series of fabulous recordings.

This week's Pristine release features a truly superlative 1940 reading of Schubert's "Great" 9th Symphony, as well an excellent Mozart 38th "Prague", Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra, and shorter works by Sibelius, Saint-Saëns, Weber and Ippolitov-Ivanov, in superb new Obert-Thorn transfers.

We also celebrate pianist Jascha Spivakovsky's birthday with a special discount on all his recordings.
