ORMANDY & The Philadelphia Orchestra - Early Years Vol. 4

Eugene Ormandy began recording with The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1936, and whilst many of the recordings he made as accompanist to the great soloists of the era have lived on, much of his purely orchestral output has been neglected.

This all-Russian release features a recording of Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony never reissued since the 78rpm era, as well as two Rimsky-Korsakov recordings that have never had commercial issue. There's also a magnificent reading of Tchaikovsky 'Pathétique' Symphony and a fabulous 1945 Nutcracker Suite, all in superb new transfers by Mark Obert-Thorn.
