MENGELBERG Concertgebouw Telefunkens Vol. 3

Willem Mengelberg and the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam recorded some of the finest sounding discs of the 1930s and 1940s, and this week brings a double-CD of their superb Telefunken studio recordings from 1938 and 1940.

There are two symphonies: Beethoven's Fourth and Brahm's Second, plus a fabulous Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture. There are also shorter works from Dopper, Andriessen, the conductor's nephew Rudolf Mengelberg and more, as well as two solo appearances by soprano Jo Vincent - all in fabulous new transfers by Mark Obert-Thorn.
