LÉNER QUARTET Debussy, Ravel & Franck

This week, we return to Pristine’s critically-acclaimed and best-selling series featuring the Léner Quartet. We hear them now in a program featuring works by Debussy and Ravel. Ravel heard the Léners play his quartet at their 1920 Vienna début, and was so pleased that he offered to coach them in the work, and encouraged them to perform in Paris. We can reasonably assume that what we hear in their 1933 recording reflects the composer’s own intentions.

Rounding out our program is a recording from 99 years ago(!) of the Lento movement from Franck’s Piano Quintet, an acoustic disc featuring the Léners’ frequent chamber music collaborator, Olga Loeser-Lebert, who would go on to make complete electrical recordings of piano quintets by Schumann, Brahms and Dvořák with the quartet.
