Bruno Walter's first concert with the NBC Symphony Orchestra, in March 1939, featured an extra-long all-Mozart programme: with the 15th Divertimento, the 40th Symphony, and a performance of the 20th Piano Concerto conducted by Walter from the keyboard as soloist.
The following week he was back with Weber and symphonies from Brahms and Haydn in a second ecstatically received concert. This new Ambient Stereo XR release will transport you back 85 years in barely-believable sound quality to that radio studio in New York. Truly essential listening!
We also celebrate Debussy's 162nd birthday with a special offer on dozens of albums featuring his music.
