Aïda was one of Renata Tebaldi's signature roles on the operatic stage - this week we've totally transformed her brilliant, but sonically-flawed, 1952 recording into a sumptuous production that's finally worthy of her magnificent performance.
The results of Pristine's XR remastering, which offers exactly the remedies needed for a recording such as this Aïda, bring it a sound quality now just about as fine as any other opera recording from the 1950s. The orchestra is full, direct and clear, the voices excellently balanced, focussed and full-bodied. The old harshness is nowhere to be heard. It really is a classic just waiting for rediscovery.
