This week we begin a major new Beethoven Symphony Cycle, with Carl Schuricht's unique Paris Conservatoire set, recorded by EMI between 1957 and 1959, starting with the First and Sixth (Pastoral) Symphonies.
Somewhat overlooked at the time - and not helped by being mono recordings in the dawning of the stereo era - they turn out to be quite a find, and offer something special and different: "This cycle counts. It explores avenues of Beethoven interpretation, areas of Beethovenian truth, not touched upon elsewhere" (MusicWeb International). And of course they're now in Ambient Stereo with much improved XR-remastered sound quality!
