Following on from four volumes of solo recordings, bringing renewed international acclaim to the pianist Jascha Spivakovsky, this week brings piano concertos from Mozart and Tchaikovsky, the first full orchestral releases from this remarkable pianist.
At last we have professionally recorded and broadcast performances - one from (we understand) a former concert hall which sits at the heart of the BBC's Broadcasting House in central London (now remodelled as the Radio Theatre), and a second from an ABC radio broadcast, live from the Town Hall in Melbourne, Australia.
Both feature Jascha Spivakovsky playing a full concert grand in front of a highly regarded orchestra - the Royal Philharmonic and the Victorian Symphony. Both performances are electrifying and demonstrate - at last - the virtuoso pianist in a full orchestral setting as a major concerto soloist.
