This week we return to the recordings Eugene Ormandy made with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra in the 1930s. Once again the recordings cover a wide range of music, with no less than twelve composers represented on this release: Mozart, Schumann, Smetana, Dvořák, Tchaikovsky, Drigo, Delibes, two Strausses, Kreisler, Schoenberg and Ravel.
As as Henry Fogel wrote of the first volume in Fanfare magazine, "it documents a part of American orchestral history that we don’t celebrate as well as many European countries. It also brings us the early recordings of a conductor who would become one of the most prolific recording artists in the world, amply demonstrating that the skills that were responsible for his success were present from the beginning. There is a great deal of pleasure to be found in these two discs for any music lover".
