Pristine
Audio was founded in 2002 as an audio restoration and remastering
company in the UK. Following a relocation to France in 2004, we began
serious research into the field of 78rpm restoration techniques, leading
later that year to an agreement to supply recordings for Divine Art's
new Historic Sound label.
In February
2005 Pristine Audio Direct was launched as an Internet outlet for
Pristine Audio's historic recordings, initially offered as downloads only,
but soon with custom-made CDs added. We soon added to our catalogue a
number of recordings transferred and remastered by Peter Harrison at disk2disc,
at which point the Pristine Audio catalogue started to grow rapidly.
From our
initial offering of 12 downloads in February 2005, by October 2006 the
catalogue of recordings ran to 165 separate recordings, each remastered
to the very highest standards.
October
2006 also saw our first in-house recording take place - planned to be
the first of many - with Peter Katin playing Chopin for online release
in November 2006. Meanwhile the superb reception of Pristine Audio
Direct in the music press, on the Internet and on radio has led to
wide interest from other music companies, musicians and composers in adding
their recordings to our download repertoire.
Pristine
Audio, whilst scaling down its overall output, continues to provide
excellent historic recordings both for the Pristine Audio label and for
Divine Art.

FAQ
FLAC downloads use lossless compression - when replayed or transferred to disc they are bit- identical to original recordings.
16 BIT files are at full CD resolution, identical to our CD masters.
24 BIT files are at higher, studio master resolution, identical to our finished master files.
Please ensure you can play our 24 bit FLAC files before purchase - try our test files here.
Not all media players support FLAC yet, so you may need to convert to WAV or AIFF before playback. See our FLAC help guide
FLAC downloads come as a series of tracks in a ZIP archive file.
Our MP3 files are encoded at very high variable bitrates using the LAME encoder, widely regarded as the offering the best sound quality
Each recording is presented as a single, long MP3 which can be split using the CUE sheet at the bottom of the page, adding track titles and other information.
CD writing programs such as Nero and Burrrn can write these files directly to CD with all track information added using MP3+CUE - see our tutorial
Alternatively a cue splitter program can automatically cut and name the MP3 into individual MP3 tracks
There are also media players which use the MP3+CUE system, allowing gapless playback of all long MP3 files - essential for opera and many other classical works
