Hatto CD

Is this CD what it appears? No - it's one of over 100 fakes, concocted in what is the most amazing musical fraud ever perpetrated.

In February 2007, Pristine Audio, in conjunction with Gramophone magazine, unearthed something quite unprecedented in the world of classical music. Here we present our findings:

The Hatto Hoax

Helpfile
Putting two or more MP3s onto one CD with cuesheets

The Problem

Is it possible to burn more than one MP3 file to CD using cue files? I am using CD-Rs and wanted to put two pieces of chamber music on one CD. I tried BURRN but it wouldn't work with even one file. I then tried Nero and could burn one piece successfully but there seemed to be no facility to add a second file before burning. (The pieces are approx 30 minutes each so space is not an issue).

The Solution (for Windows)

An interesting problem - to which there's a free solution so long as you already have Nero installed on your system, which you do (I assume it uses Nero's CD burning engine, as it does directly open the program).

First of all you need to download and install Foobar2000 from here:

http://www.foobar2000.org/download.html

Then go to Download Additional Components here:

http://www.foobar2000.org/components/index.html

Scroll down and select CD Burning Support. This is a small dll file which needs to be dropped into the main Foobar2000 program folder.

How this works:

1. Create a New Playlist (File/New Playlist)

2. Using File/Add Files... open the cue sheets in the order you'd prefer to hear them:

Adding files

3. Right click on the Playlist tab and follow the context menus through Contents and Convert to Write Audio CD:

CD writing

4. The program should detect your CD writer - insert a CD and click Burn to make the CD with appropriate track points and both MP3s together.

The only shortcoming I can see with this approach is the inability to set a gap between the two recordings - you'll need a dummy MP3 that's perhaps ten seconds long to do this, and load it into the playlist between the cue sheet sections:

Dummy Silence MP3 - 10s long (160KB)
