PASC065
PASC065: Beethoven: Symphony No. 4
BBC Symphony Orchestra , Toscanini (1938)

A Christmas treat for our regulars - this is Toscanini firing on all cylinders and in this new restoration sounding better than ever as we finally fix the sonic problems with the final 78rpm side that has eluded all previous remastering engineers.

Pristine Audio: New Releases 1st December 2006
PASC056
PASC056: Beethoven: Symphony No. 5
All American Orchestra, Stokowski (1940)

The second of Stokowski's three studio recordings of this revolutionary work is perhaps his most thrilling, made with a young orchestra personally assembled by the great conductor to do precisely his bidding! Culled from near-mint US 78rpm pressings, this is a real gem.

PACM047

PACM048

PACM047: Beethoven: Cello Sonatas Vol. 1
PACM048: Beethoven: Cello Sonatas Vol. 2
Janos Starker, Abba Bogin (1952)

Peter Harrison scoured the world for different pressings of this set until, at the fourth attempt, he discovered a Swiss pressing that allowed him to do full justice to these marvellous recordings and complete our Starker and Bogin collection.

Volume One takes the two early sonatas, written in 1796, whilst Volume Two adds the middle period Third Sonata and the two late period sonatas to provide a complete set.

Despite their excellent contemporary reviews, these recordings vanished from the catalogue at the end of the 1950s - finally to return over 45 years later thanks to Peter's meticulous research and fabulous remastering work!

PACO012

PACO012: Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem
Vincent, Kloos, Concertgebouw, Mengelberg (1940)

Mengelberg's acetate 78rpm recordings promise stunning sound quality for their era - but to do full justice to them takes months of painstaking restoration work. Hence the rather late final release of this excellent German Requiem recording - take a listen to our online sample to hear why this was well worth the wait...

PACO014

PACO014: Christmas Eve Vespers (Anon.)
Monks of Beuron Abbey, Pfaff (1952)

Our previous release of Gregorian chant from these monks proved highly popular, for good reason. What you hear is a recording of a living tradition of Latin worship - one which no longer exists - superbly captured in these vinyl recordings. This one, although a seasonal treat, is a spiritual experience to be enjoyed all year round.

PACO015

PACO015: Mendelssohn - Elijah
Delman, Proctor, Maran, Boyce, LPO, Krips (1954)

One of the last great Decca mono recordings, this is an Elijah to cherish. A complete recording originally stretching to three LPs, now offered as a double CD or two MP3s, this has power, majesty, mystery, and crystal clarity. A fine recording that I cannot recommend highly enough!

PACO016

PACO016: Sacred Choral Music (Palestrina, Josquin, Arcadelt)
Sistine Chapel Choir et al (1929-33)

A rare and very special collection of 15th and 16th century church music from Cathedral Choirs in France and Holland, together with the incomparable Sistine Chapel Choir, recorded almost 500 years after Josquin de Pres had been a chorister there himself!

PASC063

PASC063: Galops, Polkas & Potpourris (Various)
Deutschmeister Band, Herrmann (1955)

When Peter told me he'd found an LP of 'oom-pah music' on eBay that he was bidding on for his own pleasure, the alarm bells should have started ringing! So here's a little treat and something a little different, from one of the finest military bands in Europe, including two works written for them by one Johann Strauss!

FAQ
FLAC info

FLAC downloads use lossless compression - when replayed or transferred to disc they are bit- identical to original recordings.

16 BIT files are at full CD resolution, identical to our CD masters.

24 BIT files are at higher, studio master resolution, identical to our finished master files.

Please ensure you can play our 24 bit FLAC files before purchase - try our test files here.

Not all media players support FLAC yet, so you may need to convert to WAV or AIFF before playback. See our FLAC help guide

FLAC downloads come as a series of tracks in a ZIP archive file.

MP3 info

Our MP3 files are encoded at very high variable bitrates using the LAME encoder or at 320kbps.

Each recording is presented as a single, long MP3 which can be split using the CUE sheet at the bottom of the page, adding track titles and other information.

CD writing programs such as Nero and Burrrn can write these files directly to CD with all track information added using MP3+CUE - see our tutorial

Alternatively a cue splitter program can automatically cut and name the MP3 into individual MP3 tracks

There are also media players which use the MP3+CUE system, allowing gapless playback of all long MP3 files - essential for opera and many other classical works
